Bucks moving on from Doc Rivers; front office role possible

The Bucks are making a change.

Doc Rivers will not return as Milwaukee’s head coach next season, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

Rivers is departing the bench after parts of two seasons, with the team expected to begin a coaching search immediately.

There’s a chance he doesn’t leave the organization entirely.

Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, league sources continue to believe Rivers could transition into a front office or consultant-type role, something that had been floated in recent days.

Rivers went 97-103 with Milwaukee and was brought in midseason to replace Adrian Griffin. The results never fully followed, with the Bucks bowing out in the first round in consecutive years while dealing with injuries to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard.

To be fair, this wasn’t all on Rivers.

Milwaukee dealt with instability, health issues and constant speculation surrounding its roster. Still, expectations were higher than this.

Rivers, a Hall of Famer with more than 2,000 career wins, will be paid in full for next season, per Charania.

Now, the focus shifts to what’s next. Former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins is expected to be among the candidates as Milwaukee begins its search.

One move down. More likely coming.
