Warriors

Stephen Curry can pretty much name his price and contract length with the Warriors.

That’s the impression ESPN’s Anthony Slater gave on the latest Hoop Collective podcast, saying Golden State isn’t even approaching Curry’s newly available extension as a traditional negotiation.

“They’re adamant they’re not negotiating with Steph Curry right now,” Slater said. “They are saying, ‘You can do this, you can do this, you can do this. If you want the one-year max, if you want the two-year max, if you wanna wait. Here’s your menu. Pick off your menu.’”

Curry, 38, is eligible for a two-year maximum extension worth roughly $136.7 million and can sign it anytime through June 30. He could also wait until next summer, become a free agent and sign a new three-year deal with Golden State.

Slater said he expects Curry to make a decision relatively soon, though the Warriors aren’t applying any pressure.

That’s partly because waiting could benefit both sides. Golden State currently projects to have more than $100 million in cap room next offseason, potentially allowing Curry and the Warriors to see what other roster opportunities develop before determining his next contract.

Curry has already made the most important part clear: He wants to finish his career with the Warriors. Apparently, Golden State is willing to let him decide how.

Kings

The Kings can’t realistically pursue Pistons restricted free agent Jalen Duren now. Next summer could be another matter.

Slater revealed that Sacramento general manager Scott Perry had dinner with Duren in Miami early in free agency and has significant interest in the All-Star center.

“If you are Jalen Duren and his representatives, I would look at the Sacramento Kings and know they can get up to maximum cap space next summer,” Slater said.

The Pistons have shown no interest in facilitating a sign-and-trade involving Duren, leaving Sacramento without a realistic path to him this offseason.

But if Duren were to accept his $9.6 million qualifying offer instead of reaching a long-term agreement with Detroit, he would become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Zach LaVine‘s contract will also come off Sacramento’s books, potentially creating significant cap room.

Of course, turning down a lucrative long-term deal now in hopes of landing one later carries plenty of risk.

Meanwhile, Domantas Sabonis‘ future with the Kings continues to look uncertain. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst noted that Sabonis changed agents this offseason, hiring Aaron Mintz and Steven Heumann of CAA Sports. Slater added that Sacramento isn’t interested in discussing an extension with Sabonis and considers him a prime trade candidate.

“I think we all know where this is going,” Slater said, referring to the likelihood that Sabonis is moved before his current contract expires in 2028.

So Sacramento’s interest in Duren makes a little more sense when viewed alongside the uncertainty surrounding Sabonis.

Maybe not for today. But perhaps for what’s coming next.

Free agency

Former Spurs lottery pick Joshua Primo is headed overseas.

Primo has signed a one-year contract with BC Parma in Russia that includes an option for a second season, the team announced.

The Spurs selected Primo with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He appeared in 50 games as a rookie, averaging 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

San Antonio abruptly waived Primo four games into his second season after allegations that he repeatedly exposed himself to women, including a sports psychologist who worked for the organization. The NBA later suspended Primo for four games for conduct it deemed detrimental to the league.

Primo subsequently spent time with the Clippers organization and joined the Bulls’ G League affiliate in 2024, though he did not appear in a game for Windy City.

He did not play professionally last season.

Still just 23, Primo will now attempt to resume his career with BC Parma, which competes in Russia’s VTB United League.
