Andre Iguodala hopes LeBron James joins Stephen Curry, Warriors

Andre Iguodala isn’t trying to predict where LeBron James will sign.

He does know where he’d like to see him end up.

Speaking with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the former Warriors forward admitted he’d love to see James team up with Stephen Curry after the two stars helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Considering where they’re at in their careers, what they did in Paris,” Iguodala said. “In my opinion, LeBron James, he might be the smartest basketball player I’ve ever seen.

“For him to play with somebody like Steph Curry … to see that, even to fathom it, that’s what drives interest and drives the love of the game.”

James remains an unrestricted free agent, with Golden State among the teams linked to him throughout the process.

The Cavaliers continue to be viewed by many around the league as the favorites, though Miami, Denver, Philadelphia, Minnesota and the Warriors have all surfaced in speculation.

Whether it actually happens is another matter.

Still, Iguodala believes the possibility alone has captured the imagination of basketball fans.

“He’s very much deserving of it,” Iguodala said of the attention surrounding James’ free agency. “The opportunity could be amazing. We all tune in, regardless if we like it or not.”

James and Curry have spent much of the past decade battling one another on the NBA’s biggest stage. Seeing them share the same backcourt would mark one of the most fascinating late-career pairings the league has ever seen.

But today, it remains just that. A possibility.

And one plenty of people around the NBA, Iguodala included, will be watching closely.
