Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell on future: ‘I love it here’

Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell has heard the rumors. Again. And again. And again.

Now, Mitchell is addressing them himself.

In his latest Andscape diary following the Cavs’ season-ending loss to the Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals, Mitchell made it clear he has no desire to leave Cleveland despite continued speculation about his future.

“I love it here,” Mitchell wrote. “I see growth. I see a runway. I believe.”

Mitchell said questions about his long-term commitment to Cleveland have followed him throughout his tenure with the franchise, even after he signed his most recent contract extension.

“I don’t want to go,” Mitchell wrote. “I don’t really know how else to blatantly say it to people for them to believe me.”

The six-time All-Star added that those inside the organization already know where he stands.

“The organization knows and everybody in the building knows and feels the way I feel,” Mitchell wrote.

His comments come as another important offseason approaches.

Beginning July 7, Mitchell will become eligible for a contract extension that could add four years and approximately $277 million to his current deal. If he waits until next summer, he could become eligible for an even larger contract reportedly worth around $352 million over five years.

Naturally, that has led to renewed speculation.

Mitchell is coming off another outstanding season, averaging 27.9 points while helping lead the Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time without LeBron James on the roster since 1992.

The disappointing playoff exit has sparked questions about Cleveland’s ceiling and whether significant changes could be coming.

Mitchell’s message, however, was straightforward.

“Cleveland, you know how I feel,” he wrote. “This is just for everybody else.”
