The Cavaliers are staring at a long offseason if they can’t rally back against the Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals.
Down 3-0 in the series, Cleveland is now facing the type of questions that tend to follow expensive teams that fall short.
Naturally, speculation about blockbuster moves has already started.

One topic making the rounds is whether the Cavs could emerge as a serious suitor for Giannis Antetokounmpo if the Bucks decide to revisit his future this offseason.
According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, citing two league sources, the Cavs have shown no interest to this point in a deal centered on Evan Mobley for Antetokounmpo.
That lines up with how Cleveland has consistently viewed Mobley internally. The Cavs see the former Defensive Player of the Year as a foundational piece, not simply a trade chip to be floated every time a superstar becomes available.
Still, league chatter around the possibility hasn’t exactly come out of nowhere.
Earlier this month, The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer reported that rival executives viewed Cleveland as a possible landing spot for Giannis if the Cavs suffered another disappointing playoff exit.
Fischer added that prior to February’s trade deadline, Milwaukee sought Mobley plus significant draft compensation in conversations involving Antetokounmpo.
Meanwhile, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN previously reported the Bucks preferred offers built around young cornerstone players rather than packages focused heavily on picks.
For Cleveland, the financial reality only adds to the intrigue. Donovan Mitchell becomes extension-eligible this summer, while James Harden is expected to discuss a longer-term contract if he declines his player option.
Add in the rising salaries of Mobley and Jarrett Allen, and the Cavs are headed even deeper into the tax and apron territory.
That likely means meaningful roster upgrades won’t come easily unless one of the team’s highest-paid players is involved in a major move.
Whether that eventually changes Cleveland’s thinking remains to be seen. But as of now, per Vardon, the Cavaliers are not pursuing a Mobley-for-Giannis blockbuster.
