Dribbles: Cavs, as they say, are really cookin’

Random dribbles on the Cavaliers, who blasted the visiting Milwaukee Bucks by a 135-95 count on Wednesday.Georges Niang drives by Jae Crowder

1. It’s true that the Bucks didn’t have MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo. But I never thought a Cavs team without the injured Darius Garland and Evan Mobley would beat anyone by 40.

2. I was wrong.

3. Nor did I ever think I’d see Georges Niang score 33 points in 27 minutes — shooting a sizzling 13-of-14 from the field.

4. Wrong again, Amico.

5. But know what I’m right about? When I type the fact the Cavs (24-15) have won six straight and 11 of 14. Without Garland and Mobley, most people probably didn’t see that coming, either.

6. Coach JB Bickerstaff will have an issue here shortly. He’ll have to figure out a way to work Garland back in, then Mobley, and perhaps expand the rotation. It is what’s known as “a good problem to have.”

7. A few of the players who have kept the Cavs afloat will certainly deserve to stay in the rotation. The data supports keeping Sam Merrill and his outside shooting as a regular part of things even when the Cavs are entirely healthy. Just my opinion.

8. For the record, Bickerstaff has never asked for it (my opinion). I’m not sure I’d want that responsibility anyway.

9. Besides, Bickerstaff has done just fine on his own lately. Somehow, someway, the Cavs have been able to not only hold it together, but improve their position in the Eastern Conference.

10. Against the Bucks, the Cavs shot an amazing 59 percent from the field and passed for 36 assists. Donovan Mitchell scored 31 — and is averaging almost 37 points over the last three games.

11. That’s an example of both teamwork and individual stardom. Those two things can carry you far in this league.

12. Meanwhile, all Jarrett Allen did was compile yet another double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds — for his 10th straight double-double. That’s an example of a big man rising at the right time.

13. Niang summed up his Larry Bird-like night this way: “I’ll definitely enjoy what happened tonight. But you’ve got to have amnesia in this league, even after a big game. All of us know this is way bigger than Georges Niang’s first 30-point night. We have a tough stretch of games coming up.”

14. He’s right. Things get considerably tougher for the Cavs, as they now have four straight on the road, including two in Milwaukee. Think the Bucks will be mad?

15. Overall, six of the Cavs’ next eight are on the road. On the bright side, they have a home game against Detroit in there. But road or no, if anyone has shown they can overcome a few obstacles, it’s been this group of Cavaliers.
