Knicks coach Mike Brown has plenty of history with San Antonio.
Before becoming an NBA head coach, Brown spent three seasons as an assistant under Gregg Popovich, helping launch a coaching career that has now spanned more than two decades.
That familiarity won’t change much once the Finals begin.

“They definitely want to beat me and I want to kick their ass,” Brown said, via The New York Post.
Brown acknowledged his appreciation for the Spurs organization and the role it played in his development, but said all friendships will be put aside once the series tips off. At least temporarily.
Anunoby could draw Wembanyama assignment
Slowing Victor Wembanyama is arguably the biggest challenge facing New York.
The Knicks may turn to OG Anunoby for help.
According to The New York Post, Anunoby has allowed the fewest points per possession among players who have served as Wembanyama’s primary defender for at least 100 possessions.
Brown praised Anunoby’s versatility, noting he possesses the size, strength and athleticism to defend virtually every position on the floor.
Having a defender capable of switching between guards, wings and big men could become a major factor in the series.
Robinson remains question mark
Mitchell Robinson‘s status for Game 1 remains uncertain after the veteran center recently suffered a broken pinky finger.
While no official update has been provided, Robinson shared a message of appreciation to fans over the weekend.
“I can’t thank you guys enough for the love and support,” Robinson wrote on Instagram. “It makes everything I’m fighting through 100x easier to deal with.”
If healthy, Robinson’s rebounding, rim protection and physical presence could play a significant role against San Antonio’s frontcourt.
