NBA Notes: Sixers, Dean Wade, Bucks, Gary Trent Jr., Raptors

Sixers

Dean Wade spent seven seasons doing the dirty work in Cleveland.

Now, he believes he’ll be doing much of the same in Philadelphia.

Speaking with Gina Mizell of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Wade said he sees himself as a natural fit alongside the Sixers’ high-powered offense because of what he brings at the other end of the floor.

“I’ve got to play with that little chip on my shoulder,” Wade said. “I love that competitive spirit.”

Wade built a reputation with the Cavaliers as one of the league’s more versatile defenders, capable of guarding multiple positions while doing plenty of the little things that don’t always show up in the box score.

“You don’t want to let any of your teammates down,” he said. “You know how important you are on the defensive end.”

Bucks

Gary Trent Jr. isn’t going anywhere.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the veteran guard has agreed to a fully guaranteed four-year, $64 million contract to remain with Milwaukee after weeks of negotiations.

Trent reportedly drew interest from multiple teams in sign-and-trade discussions, but ultimately decided to stay with the Bucks. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported the contract contains no player or team options.

The deal comes despite a down season statistically for Trent, who averaged 8.1 points while shooting below his career averages from both the field and beyond the arc.

Still, The Athletic suggested the contract also serves as a reward after Trent accepted below-market deals over the previous two seasons to remain in Milwaukee.

Raptors

The Raptors don’t appear to be planning any reunion tours.

According to Michael Grange of Sportsnet, Toronto is unlikely to pursue former franchise favorites DeMar DeRozan or Jonas Valanciunas as it continues navigating its salary-cap situation.

Much of that hinges on the pending Kawhi Leonard trade with the Clippers. Assuming the deal goes through as currently constructed, Grange reported the Raptors would have virtually no financial flexibility remaining below the NBA’s first apron, making even a veteran minimum signing difficult.

In other words, it appears Toronto’s focus remains on completing the Leonard trade before exploring any other roster moves.
