Cavaliers
The Cavaliers may already have their path mapped out with James Harden.
Given their cap and apron situation, Cleveland is expected to explore a new multiyear deal with Harden that lowers his 2026-27 cap hit, rather than having him pick up his $42.3 million player option, per ESPN’s Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst.
That approach could give the Cavs needed flexibility without making major roster cuts.
“Best path to get under the apron without materially salary dumping,” one Eastern Conference executive told ESPN. “The Cavs will pay him more than he could get in free agency. They’ll probably work something out.”
There is also optimism internally. Sources told ESPN that Harden and coach Kenny Atkinson have developed a strong working relationship.
Knicks
The Knicks could be headed toward a decision point with Karl-Anthony Towns.
Towns has two years left on his deal, though the final season is a player option. That makes him a clear extension candidate this offseason.
How New York proceeds may depend on its playoff run.
“They’re probably in a spot with KAT that they should either extend him or look to trade him,” an Eastern Conference executive told ESPN.
Towns earned another All-Star nod this season and has played well in the postseason. If the Knicks view him as a long-term fit, there is a belief he could follow Jalen Brunson’s lead and take slightly less than the max to help keep the roster intact.
Raptors
Gradey Dick’s future in Toronto is less certain.
The former lottery pick would be open to a trade this offseason, according to Michael Grange of Sportsnet. The Raptors are expected to at least consider that option as they sort through a tight cap situation.
Dick showed promise early in his career, but his production dipped in 2025-26. His minutes, scoring and shooting percentages all declined, raising questions about his role moving forward.
He is entering the final year of his rookie contract at $7.13 million and will be eligible for an extension this summer.
