Kevin Love reportedly open to Timberwolves return, interest is mutual

Kevin Love could be going back to where it all started.

Love is open to returning to the Timberwolves, and Minnesota has some interest in bringing him back, The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski said on The Jon Krawczynski Show.

“From what I understand, Kevin Love is open to coming back to Minnesota,” Krawczynski said, via HoopsHype. “I do think the Wolves have some interest in bringing him back as well.”

Now that would be a full-circle ending. Love spent his first six NBA seasons with Minnesota after being acquired in a draft-night trade in 2008. He became a three-time All-Star with the Timberwolves before being traded to the Cavaliers in 2014, where he helped Cleveland win the 2016 championship.

Krawczynski believes Love could fill a need beyond whatever minutes he has left on the court.

The Wolves have lost several veteran voices, including Mike Conley, Kyle Anderson and Joe Ingles, and Krawczynski said they could use another experienced player who knows how to communicate with both coaches and teammates.

Love, who turns 38 this month, averaged 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds in 37 games with Utah last season.

He’s been linked to several possibilities this offseason, including a potential return to Cleveland. Nothing materialized there. Perhaps his other former team will be different.

The Wolves have room for a 15th player after officially signing Jonathan Kuminga. And if they’re looking for another veteran voice, bringing Love’s career back to where it began would certainly make for one heck of a final chapter.
